Not in terms of power but of self-control

The impulse to the separation of Church and State ought properly to come not from the state but from the church. A proper church must know how important it is to exercise self-restraint when it comes to the wielding of power in the society.
The biblical regime represents YHWH as recognizin His need for self-restraint. YHWH sees Himself not as all powerful but as self-restraining. Maturity is manifest more in the ability to exercise self-restraint over oneself than in the ability to wield power over others. The standard conception that represents God as ominpotent and omniscient is an adolescent conception. The mature view would render God not in terms of His power but in terms of His self-control.
