The northern- and southern-most edge of Africa

The northern-most edge of Africa, Egypt, served the same colonial purpose as the southern-most edge of Africa, the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. In the 19th century both were valuable not for anything in these territories or of these populations but only because they served as entrepots to the English trade with India.
